Staff Qualifications and Experience

Aus Mining Personnel was purchased in 1996 by Dennis Howe who has been actively involved in the recruitment sector since 1988 when he successfully established CBC Staff Selection in Cairns.

Dennis Howe OAM – Managing Director

Before settling in Cairns in 1987, Dennis accumulated 30 years’ experience in the corporate sector including roles in chartered accountancy, finance and aviation. His career in the aviation industry included the positions of Managing Director (East-West Airlines) and Deputy General Manager (Australian Airlines). In 1988, Dennis established CBC Staff Selection and in 1996 acquired Aus Mining Personnel. Over the ensuing 17 years, he successfully developed the business to the stage where it is now highly regarded in Cairns as a provider of high quality labour hire staff. CBC Staff Selection was sold in 2004 so Dennis would be able to concentrate all of his efforts into the ongoing expansion and success of Aus Mining Personnel.

Up until 2017 he was the Swedish Consul for Far North Queensland (22 years). Previous activities include Director, RACQ (12 years), Cairns Port Authority (13 years), Cairns Chamber of Commerce Committee (10 years), and Chairman, FNQ Institute of TAFE (8 years).

Rob Rees – Business Development Manager

Rob joined the Aus Mining Personnel team in January 2001 having accumulated 24 years of experience in various industries including mining and construction. His roles have covered operating heavy equipment, motor vehicle repairs, servicing and maintenance of a range of machinery and concrete formwork. Rob is responsible for business development and recruitment and his duties include client liaison, visiting sites, site briefing and interviewing. This has enabled him to provide a high quality of labour hire placements in keeping with the wide range of skills required to meet specific requests. Rob has achieved this high standard by regularly visiting client operations, depots and facilities to develop a sound working relationship with managers and supervisors.

Ben Bloomfield – Senior Recruitment Consultant

Ben has accumulated over 23 years of experience, mostly in the mining industry. He commenced as a machinery operator and progressed through the ranks to hold various management roles in the capacity of Mine Foreman, Production Superintendent and Site Senior Executive. Main functions in these positions included recruitment and management of staff and extensive involvement in all aspects of workplace, health and safety. This expertise and knowledge combined with a strong client commitment, enables Ben to readily identify suitably skilled candidates to meet our client labour hire requirements.

After Sales Service

Aus Mining Personnel has a comprehensive after sales process to ensure clients’ needs are continually met and short and long term placements are successful. This process includes regular telephone contact with the Site Supervisor and site visits to ensure that the person is performing satisfactorily.

Once an assignment is completed, feedback to the temporary employee is provided and notated in our files accordingly

Aus Mining Personnel guarantee:

  • The recruitment of temporary staff in the minimal time frame and will ensure all requirements are met
  • Replacement of any temporary staff member who proves unsatisfactory, immediately on notification
  • Availability of recruitment consultants 24 hours per day, seven days per week
  • Sourcing of skilled labourers in two to four hours and suitably qualified candidates for other positions in up to one day
